Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, known professionally as Shakira, is a Colombian singer and composer born and reared in Barranquilla. Shakira is known as the Queen of Latin Music for her versatility in the music industry, which has garnered her a large fan following worldwide.

Shakira was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, on 2nd February 1977. She is the only child of her parents. Her father gifted her a typewriter when she was seven, and from that age, she started to write poems. Since childhood, she had a unique vibrato, and she was bullied for the same.
Along with writing poems, songs and singing, she had a knack for dancing, especially belly dancing. She used to be part of local events and theatres. One day, she was introduced to Sony’s Colombia executive, and he was impressed with her audition and signed her to record three albums.
Regarding her personal life, Shakira has been in a relationship with Antonio de la Rúa since 2000. After nearly 11 years of a long relationship, they broke up mutually after Antonio filed a lawsuit against her. The following year, Shakira began a relationship with FC Barcelona defender Gerard Pique whom she met at her music video shoot for FIFA World Cup 2010. The couple has two babies together though they are not yet officially married.

Shakira did not have a great start to her career as the first and the second album flopped. Her fifth album, Laundry Service, was in English, and it was a major success, especially due to the song “Whenever, Wherever”. The song “Hips Don’t Lie” from the Oral Fixation album became the bestselling single of the last decade of the 20th century.
In 2009, her album She Wolf was again a major hit, and she was roped in to sing the official song ‘Waka Waka’ for FIFA World Cup 2010. Shakira became a sensation overnight, and the music video has been seen multiple billion times on YouTube. She became the highest-selling Colombian singer.
Shakira was also cast as a judge in the popular music talent search song “The Voice”. In October 2016, she released the song “Chantaje”, which became Shakira’s most viewed song on YouTube.
Shakira is the bestselling Colombian singer of all time. Shakira has to her name 5 VMAs, 2 Grammys, 7 Billboard Music Awards(BMAs), 12 Latin Grammys and 33 Latin BMAs. She is a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. Shakira is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. Her song “Waka Waka” is the bestselling world-cup song of all time.
